Rorke Data and Legend3D Team Up to Bring Award-Winning 3D Action to the Big Screen

and data storage solutions provider, today announced it has teamed up with Legend3D,
a leading digital media technology and visual effects company and innovator in
3D storytelling, to create and deploy a cost-effective and highly efficient
file management system along with a suite of finishing tools for storing large
2D-to-3D conversion data files. The strategic partnership implements a data
management system capable of hosting data files generated by Legend3D’s
conversion work on leading Hollywood films—such as Transformers: Dark of the
Moon, Hugo and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
The system features Rorke Data’s HyperFS file system and Rorke Data Galaxy®
Aurora SAN appliances, as well as Adobe®
and Key
Code Media technologies, for a state-of-the-art solution.

“At Legend3D, we’ve
dedicated a significant portion of our R&D efforts and manpower to
developing progressive, business efficient stereo conversion tools to advance
the 3D entertainment industry. The nature of our business requires a depth of
storage and immense bandwidth to support a dynamic, content-sharing

The Legend3D, Rorke Data
and Key Code teams collaborated to develop an extensive fibre network connected
into Rorke Data’s HyperFS file system, allowing Legend3D to have 16
different shot reviews operating simultaneously. The solution includes ten
Rorke Data Galaxy Aurora SAN appliances striped into four volumes, ranging from
35 to 55 terabytes each. This solution offers the ability to create massive
amounts of throughput in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Because of the open architecture
of Rorke Data’s storage solutions, Legend3D is also able to use Adobe’s
new film finishing and color grading application Adobe® SpeedGrade™
CS6.
